It was amazing. I’m making it again right now. ~ Nick
Bread machine rosemary bread smells amazing as it’s baking. When it’s done the bread is firm and tastes of rosemary.
It’s perfect for sandwiches. I’ve used it for ham sandwiches (and those were good), but rosemary bread is really great when paired with chicken or turkey.
The Man of the House also likes to have rosemary bread for a snack. He toasts it and then slathers it with cream cheese. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds.
Are you a fan of rosemary? Want to make some dinner rolls that will make people stop and take notice? Then try this rosemary dinner roll recipe. The flavor is amazing!
Rosemary Facts
Did you know that rosemary is a member of the sage family? I sure didn’t. Hmmm . . . I wonder how this recipe would taste with sage instead of rosemary. I’ll have to give it a try.
Rosemary is a drought-tolerant plant, making it popular for use in landscaping. Right now I have two rosemary plants outside and a small one in my kitchen window.
Rosemary has been used as a symbol for rememberance during funerals and commemorations.

Making Bread Machine Rosemary Bread
This makes a two-pound loaf of bread. Use the basic setting with medium crust.
You can use dried rosemary and the bread will taste fine. However, if you have a rosemary plant I advise that you use fresh rosemary. The fresh herbs make a difference in the flavor.
Start by mixing the milk and the egg in a bowl or 2-cup measuring cup. If you’re using dried rosemary, add the herb to the milk-egg mixture to rehydrate it.
Follow the instructions that came with your bread machine in terms of which ingredients to put in the machine first.
Make sure you check on the dough after five or ten minutes of kneading.
Pop the top of the bread machine and see how the dough is doing. It should be a smooth, round ball. If it’s too dry add liquid a teaspoon at a time until it looks right. If it looks too wet, add flour a tablespoon at a time until it looks right.

Experienced using bread machine. Bread didn’t rise enough. Disappointed.
I have an old sunbeam bread machine that has 1 -1.5 loaves. How do I adjust the recipe for smaller loaves? Thanks.
Here’s an article on how to adjust bread recipes for differently sized machines.
Made these (the roll versionl for our Friendsgiving last night. There were a winner! Everyone was sad when they ran out. Next year we will be making several batches. my sisters mother-in-law has already requested a batch. I just made the recipie card for my cookbook. My kids have also requested I make it as bread tomorrow.
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I made this last night. It smelled great but made a small brick. It didn’t rise at all.
Should I have heated the milk and eggs or at least let them come to room temperature? I think because they were cold the dough was too cold to rise.
I’m new to bread machines, this is only my second loaf. Using a Cuisinart Compact.
Hi Mark, You’ll want to look at your bread machine manual to see if it calls for warming those items. My machine has a warming cycle so it will bring the ingredients up to temperature before mixing. Also look at this article on bread that doesn’t rise at all.
Want to cook in loaf pan, do you have any suggestions for time/temp in the oven?
I’m sorry. I always use the bread machine for this.
Put the dough in pan, after rise put in a COLD oven set at 350 for 32-38 minutes.
Hi Marsha…the rosemary bread turned out great. I meant to ask if you used butter or olive oil. If olive oil, plain or extra virgin?
Hi Marion, I used plain olive oil. We get that at Costco too, along with the flour. 🙂
I’m getting a breadmaker today for christmas and this is the first recipe I want to try. Quick question: What kind of yeast? Quick active? Just regular yeast?
Josh, Congratulations on your new bread machine! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. I’d use active dry yeast. Avoid the quick or rapid rise yeast unless you’re looking at a recipe that specifically calls for that type of yeast. (For example, here’s a recipe for dinner rolls using rapid rise yeast.) Let me know how you like the bread. The rosemary bread is one of my favorites.
I got good flavor, but I need to learn my machine better. The crust came out really hard for the ‘medium’ setting. Unbearably hard, actually… though the inside was just perfect. I tried again on the ‘light’ crust setting, and the bread fell (may be my fault… I may have added too much sugar), and the top of the crust was great, but the sides and bottom were too hard.
The recipe looks solid (though I prefer to have a lot more rosemary than just 1 tsp), just need to work my machine a little better.
Oh, and it tastes GREAT in a roast beef sandwich!! (Especially if you like to roast some beef in red wine and crushed dried rosemary like I do) 😀
Those sandwiches sound great!!! Thanks for letting me know how the bread turned out.
What kind of a bread machine do you have?

The rosemary bread sounds great. Stephen from SC, couldn’t you use fresh orange peel and orange juice added to the recipe instead of the milk for liquid? I’m going to try that out when baking in my Wellbilt bread machine.
It was amazing. I’m making it again right now. Had to take 10 minutes to navigate to the site again, but I think I’m going to bookmark it now!
I’m glad you liked it!
Rosemary-Orange bread? I’ve never heard of this, but it sounds great! At the moment, all I have is this rosemary bread recipe plus an orange bread. You can bet that I’m going to be trying to combine these two recipes though. I’ll let you know what I discover!
While eating at The Coast resturaunt in Charleston, SC, I encountered a delicious bread that they served called Rosemary-Orange. I’d like to duplicate the recipe in my Breadman bread maker. Would you by chance have the appropriate recipe?
Thank you,
Stephen Kovarcik
