Prepared Pantry has a New York Rye bread mix. I gave it a try recently and was very pleased with the results.
The instructions on the mix said to add water that was eighty degrees in temperature. I use a Zojirushi’s bread machine and it has a preheat cycle so I just added tap water. However I forgot that my house’s well water doesn’t work well with bread mixes or bread recipes. After five to ten minutes of kneading the bread looked like this:
Yep, I should have used bottled water. No worries. I added flour a little at a time until the dough looked better. (It took 2.5 tablespoons of flour.) In the end the bread came out fine.
It had a good flavor and texture. We made some very tasty sandwiches using the bread and leftover corned beef. Yum!
